People often get confused between the terms: cyber security and information security, as these terms are often used interchangeably. They both deal with the security of computer systems from information breaches and threats, but they are not the same. In this blog, we will explain cyber security and information security in detail, differences between these terms and their future scope.

What is Cyber Security?

Cyber security is the method of safeguarding data and information stored in electronic form in computers, networks, servers, mobile devices, etc from getting attacked and being compromised. It ensures that only authorized users have access to that information. Its processes include identifying the critical data, the implemented technology and its exposure to risk.

What is Information Security?

Information security deals with the security of data stored in any form (other than a computer as well) encompassing all records under the control of an organization. Its practice involves granting access to authorized individuals and organizations only. It maintains the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your data.

Difference Between Cyber Security and Information Security

Both cyber security and information security terms are identical and have to deal with the security of data from penetration, but they also have differences.

Cyber security protects information stored in a computer or internet whereas information security deals with protecting data stored in any general form.

Cyber security ensures the safe use of the internet and cyber space from security attacks while information security protects data from any kind of threat.

Information security safeguards data from unauthorized access or modification and cyber security protects against cyber crimes or online frauds.

Cyber security threats protect your personal information on social media accounts whereas information security deals with the protection of any form of information.

Future Scope of Information and Cyber Security

Although we hear about cyber threats and attacks daily, we get to know about only high-profile cases. We should understand that no enterprise or individual is safe from these attacks. Cyber-attacks are getting more powerful and dangerous.

Professionals in this field are in high demand and the pay is also very good. The need for security professionals is will grow in the near future. Based on Forbes’s official estimation, job growth in this sector is at 37% per year at least through 2022.
